Main product description
The ‘Gentleman’ model bassoon is based on Mollenhauer’s top level ‘Professional’model. It is ideal for more advanced players and amateurs who take their playing very seriously. It is free blowing with a dark and characterful sound. This bassoon is made with its longest joint also split in an alternate location so that it can be carried in a more compact case.
All of Mollenhauer’s bassoons are made from mountain maple wood. Mountain maple is medium-weight and has a flexibility that lends itself well to woodwind instrument manufacture. Together with its particular design, the combination achieves a particularly direct and focused response.
On top of the standard keywork, the ‘Professional’ model features a whisper key lock on the wing joint and 3 additional rollers on top of the usual F to Ab for the right-hand thumb, C# to Eb for the left-hand little finger, a high E and D keys, F#, G# C# D# trill keys, E/F# trill key and a G ring key. Silver-lined finger holes can be requested as an optional extra. All of the key work is silver-plated.
Howarth supplies Mollenhauer bassoons with a Tutti Fagotti case, reed case for six reeds, shoulder strap, silk pull-throughs, La Tromba cork grease, two crooks and set up for a balance hanger to be fitted.

The Mollenhauers were a family of woodwind instrument makers. In 1822 Johannes Mollenhauer set up a workshop in Fulda in the heart of Germany, north-west of Frankfurt, later joined by his sons Gustav and Thomas. In 1864, Gustav established his own firm in Kassel, a little further north of Fulda, and was in turned joined by his sons Thomas and Johannes. This firm is still operating today under the name Gustav Mollenhauer & Sons, with a specialty in contrabassoons, but also manufactures bassoons, oboes, cor anglais and clarinets.
